Confederate Army order concerning the impressment of free blacks [manuscript], 1861 November.

Confederate Army order, November 1861, from engineer, Captain Edmund Trowbridge Dana Myers to Captain HIcks of the Confederate steamer "Northampton," listing nineteen impressed free blacks to be escorted through Richmond, Virginia, for return to their homes via the Danville Rail Road. These requisitioned free blacks were used to perform manual labor for the army at Fort Huger and Hardy's Bluff (Isle of Wight County).
